Cumberland School held an outdoor netball competition on cold, crisp afternoon in January.
Fourteen boys and girls, from Year 6, made up two netball teams and each team played 5 games against other Newham schools.
Netball has some very strict rules about player positions and how much of the netball court each player can move into. Mr Permaul knew that the skills gained from handball and basketball lessons taught in school would be transferable to the game of netball. Towards the end of the tournament, and having played 5 games, everyone was getting used to the rules and working out some great game tactics.
Everyone played to the best of their ability and demonstrated both amazing individual skills and wonderful teamwork and cooperation. Despite a good team effort, neither of the Southern Road teams finished first, second or third. However, both Mr Monk and Ms England feel that everyone should be proud of how they coped as for all of the children this was their first ever netball competition.
