Southern Road Primary recently (October 2019) achieved a Best Practice with Teaching Assistants Award. This nationally recognised award, led in school by Ms Yearnshire has two core purposes.
- To recognise and celebrate the invaluable and increasingly complex role that teaching assistants play in supporting the teaching and learning as well as pastoral care of pupils.
- To evaluate, monitor and support the leadership, management and work of teaching assistants in order to improve pupil attainment.
At Southern Road we are committed to ensuring the best outcomes for our staff as well as our pupils and for this reason we are proud to have achieved this award. It provided not only the opportunity to highlight the strengths of our very dedicated support staff but also ensure we maintain a clear focus on what our next steps in development should be. Further information about the role of a teaching assistant can be found here or feel free to ask any member of Southern Road’s support staff what their job involves.
