At Southern Road we are incredibly pleased that our Two year old Nursery provision is running successfully.
Both staff and children are beaming from ear to ear with its success!
We have a fantastically committed team who work tirelessly to make sure that our younger pupils get the very best start to their time in school. We try and ensure that pupils have a curriculum that is well balanced, full of engaging activities that encourages pupils to have fun and be excited when coming to school. It is also an opportunity for them to make new friendships with other pupils and start building positive relationships from an early age. We ensure all the children are given plenty of verbal praise and encouragement to succeed.
A significant number of two year olds are now eligible for free childcare. Your family must meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
- Income Support
- Income Based Jobseekers Allowance
- The Guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit and/or Working Tax Credit, provided the annual gross income is no more than £16,190 as assessed by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC)
- If the child is looked after by the Local Authority

Sessions
Children who have funded places will have fixed sessions, either a morning or afternoon. This is to ensure that they receive their full entitlement and we will negotiate this with you upon interview.
Facilities
Our two year olds have their own room within our Early Years building with age-appropriate resources and furniture. They also have access to all the other areas of our building including our fabulous outdoor area, newly refurbished Library, music room and hall space for physical activities.
At this age, children are at different stages with their toilet training. We have excellent changing facilities for those still requiring them; access to potties and free access to their own toilets, which are situated near their room.
Admissions
Your child’s name can be placed on our Two Year Old Provision admissions waiting list from the term after their second birthday.

Parents/Carers are requested to complete a admission form if eligible for free early years education, which can be found here or collected from and returned to the school office along with the correct forms of identification. Regrettably we cannot accept registration of children over the telephone. Parents/Carers are contacted when a vacancy arises.
If your child is offered a place at Southern Road, you will be asked to attend an admissions interview, during which time you will meet with the Early Years Assistant Head Teacher and any queries or worries will be addressed at this point. At the time of admission you will receive a copy of our current prospectus and have the opportunity to purchase a book bag.
Please note that before deciding to apply to Southern Road you are welcome to make an appointment with the Early Years Assistant Head Teacher in order to look around the school.
